The Big Picture of Media as Ministry
If it’s ministry, then it’s about people, even in tech world. From compatriots in the tech booth to senior leadership and from the vocalists to the “it’s too loud” congregants, ministry only happens when we engage with people. The tech arena offers few guidelines to people, which is what makes this class special. Together we will explore what it takes to be a vital part of reaching people through media.
Kent Morris
Kent Morris delivers a 47 year perspective on the technical arena. He toured for decades as a live sound and systems engineer for Paul Baloche, Tommy Walker, Kim Hill and Israel Houghton and has directed hundreds of Audio/Video/Lighting installations in performance venues, churches, schools and theaters. His clients include BB King, Morgan Freeman, Mt Paran Church of God, Tootsies, Electric Cowboy, and In Touch Ministries/First Baptist Atlanta, where he served Dr. Charles Stanley and now Dr. Anthony George each week as audio engineer. Kent is the Live Sound Market Manager for Sweetwater Music and Sound in Ft. Wayne, Indiana where he engages the pro audio market segment of this $1.8 billion company.
He has installed systems and taught in all fifty US states as well as in thirty countries. Kent is also an instructor at the University of Mobile where he teaches advanced courses in audio, lighting and acoustics.
Kent has been an editor and writer since 1995 with over a thousand published articles to his name in Worship Leader, Christianity Today, Church Production, Sound and Video Contractor, System Contractor News, Live Sound International, Worship Musician and Technologies for Worship. He has been a committee member of the Audio Engineering Society for thirty-five years and teaches for AES as well as NAMM, NSCA, NAB, LDI and NRB on technology issues.
He was the original technology instructor for Saddleback’s Purpose-Driven conferences, Calvary Chapel’s Worship Training, Maranatha’s Worship Leader Workshops and Integrity Media’s Seminars4Worship and he originated the Chick-Fil-A Faith Night events held at dozens of professional baseball stadiums. He has been an industry consultant since 1983 and lives in Atlanta with his wife of 40 years, Melani, and their two sons.
